I have an 82 FI spider. I've spent months trying to get the fuel injectors to pulse, and I just can't figure out the electrical issue. I'm thinking about swapping it out for a carb. Besides a low PSI fuel pump, carb manifold, and a carb/air cleaner, what else will I need for the conversion?
Any advice is appreciated.
Also I'm not looking for the best ever intake/carb set up, just looking to finally get this fiat running.
Thanks,
Dan
Carb conversion! Need some pointers
Re: Carb conversion! Need some pointers
if it were me, I'd sort out the FI. Have you posted the problem and the various tests you've run so far?

Pulse on the injectors is dependent on the distributor signal. Do you have spark ?
Re: Carb conversion! Need some pointers
I am getting spark, I can get it to run for a split second by pouring gas in the intake. I'm getting gas at the fuel rail, brand new injectors, and I have a good computer.

Is the fuel pump working?
Ignition on, with the air filter off, push the flap in the AFM and listen or have someone listen for the fuel pump to turn on.
Does not turn on, first check the ground to the pump. This is located at the left rear turn signal.
Good ground, I'd direct wire the pump to see if it is working. Not working then....sit down and have a cold beer...
The injectors need good grounds where the wires(2) are connected at the intake plenum.

I just worked through my own problem. I was very frustrated but I got the car running well. Stick with itnadman009 wrote:I have an 82 FI spider. Are you sure the injectors are getting pulse? Disconnect an injector wire. Take your multimeter and prong the 2 contacts. If I recall, there is .3 VDC. This is a steady reading. Then have someone crank the engine (have the coil lead disconnected) and this reading should fluctuate.
Have you checked fuel pressure in the rail? Crank engine and the pressure regulator should hold 35 psi in the rail.
Distributor rotor lined up to +/- #4 wire contact at TDC with cam wheels lined up to their marks.
Still doesn't fire up? Maybe, too much fuel and flooded. Clamp off fuel line to cold start injector.
hope this helps,
Warren
