Off to Le Mans Tomorrow

Work blows, having a health scare, and there's nothing on TV - but tomorrow I head to France to see Le Mans with my best bud of the last 36 years. Will be my fifth time there and his first, so looking forward to sharing the experience with a good friend. Love the atmosphere, the cars in the night, the food and wine, and as with four years ago, will watch the World Cup in pubs (or whatever the French call them) with Europeans who are crazy about what is really a dull game (except during Word Cup!). Last time I went I stayed up all night long watching the cars race at almost the same pace as in the day time, and was rewarded with sunrise racing under the Dunlop Tire. And there's nothing like the Corvette V-8's thundering by when all the other cars whine so. Surgery will just have to wait until the party is over.

Man, I'm envious!

LeMans is on my racing bucket list for sure, along with Monaco and Monza. I used to go to Indy for the USGP every year, and it was such a great time. While the atmosphere wasn't quite like LeMans, it was a lot of fun and very international. The city really opened there arms to everyone for the weekend, even though the locals didn't really seem to get F1. Michael Schumacher and Ferrari were completely dominant in those days, so it's particularly sad to see him so badly injured now. I miss that race and the weekend with the guys, which was always held this weekend, Fathers Day. My wife had it easy, I was never home for Dad's day!

Anyway, have a great time and give us a report when you get back...
