New Ragtop Install

Post by bradbig »

I just finished installing a new top that I ordered from Autoberry, listed on eBay, It's a very nice top, better quality material than what was on it. The old top had several tears, was very stiff, and the rear window had a crack in it. I didn't realize the old top didn't have the side wires, and the pull=through strings were still there. Obviously someone installed an aftermarket top but didn't bother to put new side wires in, and they didn't glue the inner flaps to the various frame-bows either.

I am missing some velcro on the back edge of the quarter-window on the driver's side, and I'm not sure that I attached the side wires at the rear correctly. On each side there's a fitting with 2 Phillips-head screws, that I assume are for the purpose of securing the wires, although I'm not sure they're the best location. If I tighten the wires, and pull down and in, the fabric pulls nice and tight towards the edge of the quarter-window, but pulling just straight back towards the fittings results in a gap between the fabric and the window frame. I thought about using some self-drilling screws and securing the wires to another point that results in a tighter fit. Maybe I've missed something?

there should be a piece welded to the body in front of the clamp, it is a tab with a hole in it. the wire should run thru that tab and then back to the clamp
