Hey all, I recently brought my car into a shop to get a sensor in the distributor cap fixed, and while running a car check they found a leaky fuel injector. I notice a slight stumble in my car idling, or cruising, throughout a range of revs, except maybe in 5th (but I don't drive in 5th often so maybe i haven't noticed it). It can be anywhere from a stumble all the to almost a lurch in the car. Could this be the leaky fuel injector causing a misfire in a piston? I am not super experienced in cars, so I'm not sure what to check for.
As well, as a side note, how long would a replacement take? I have the repair manual so i can go through the instructions, just wondering if I can do this in the early afternoon in time for a cruise?
Thanks!
Michael

Re: Leaking Fuel Injector
Michael...is the injector leaking fuel onto the starter or alternator?
It is not difficult or really time consuming to pull the injectors, fuel rail and disconnect the main fuel line. The injector lines get brittle with time and the things may develop a drip. This might cause the stumble but will definitely be a fire hazard.
Clemente's on Kingsway should/might have the proper 7.5mm hose and use proper fuel line clamps, not the standard hose clamps
To do all the hoses might take 2-3 hours total and perhaps 2-3 band aids after hacking your hand when trying to get the hose off around those @#*&!! steel retaining rings.
If time permits, have the injectors cleaned and flow tested. There are very small screens in the injectors that can be swapped out. Up here it costs about $25/injector...well worth it in my opinion.

Re: Leaking Fuel Injector
No, it drips either directly onto the pavement or hits the engine mount on the right side. I made sure to check I wasn't letting anything get too wrecked while I ordered parts.narfire wrote:Michael...is the injector leaking fuel onto the starter or alternator?
That's pretty far out of my way, as I am in White Rock, but I'll be going to Princess Auto and Lordco tomorrow, so hopefully they have the parts. Will I need to bleed any lines or be careful with air getting in? Or will it sort itself out once it is hooked up again?narfire wrote:Clemente's on Kingsway should/might have the proper 7.5mm hose and use proper fuel line clamps, not the standard hose clamps
Thank You!
