Seat frames Driver and Pass the same?

Post by ScotcH »

He all,

Are the seat frames for the driver and passanger seats the same? Predictably, I have 3 set of seats, and the driver sides are all warped (leaning). Can I take one of the passanger sides and swap over the rails?

your back adjust will no longer be on the outside of the seat when you switch.

Good point, but that's probably switchable as well ... I'm just curious if the frame itself, minus all the bolt on stuff is the same. I guess I'll find out when I rip them apart :)

When you get one apart and see the damage, you might find that welding will fix it.

this is a yes and no answer to your question. when the seat frame is stamped out they are the same, I have a passenger side seat on the drivers side, I just re trimmed the seat to make it a left seat. the threaded bushing on the seat back needs to be removed and welded on the other side, on the seat pan the ear that sticks up needs to be cut off and welded on the other side.

Thanks Ken, that was my thoughts.

Welding to fix it might be just as easy, if not easier, and I'll assess once they are apart for sure. Typically I see passenger frames in better shape, so that was my line of thinking.

I confirm what Ken says and had to cut stuff off and weld it on the other side. My 1979 original frames (driver and passenger) had already been repaired previously so I found some later year passenger frames at Matthews in Birmingham and used them. The later frames were noticeably stronger and have been ok with no leaning/bending.
