I'm at a point of frustration. I can not figure out how to get the old (late 70) intake manifold off.
Help!

Should be 4 bolts and 2 nuts. On my '79 that I just put a '78 manifold on I used a standard 3/8" drive with a 6" extension and short socket on some and a long socket on others. But I pulled the carb off first. When the manifold was loose it took a bit of turning it just right to pop it out over the brake booster but not a real big deal.
Or is the problem that you have got frozen bolts/nuts that you can't break loose? Can you better explain what you see as the problem?

The problem is the fuel and brake lines (steel) are in the way and I do not feel comfortable messing with them. I also need to remove the throttle linkage so I can get to the nut nearest the firewall. I would like to get my hand on the underside but the fuel pump is in the way. The way I see it, even I get the old intake off getting the new one on will be near impossible. I am literally thinking of lifting the engine a little, abviously last resort.

Ok update. I got all the bolts off. I had to remove the fuel pump and the crankcase breather thingy. Now the issue is the intake will not clear the studs because the starter is in the way, LOL . So I figure I have two options remove the starter (at least enough for the intake to clear) or remove the studs. Any thoughts? Note: the intake is a late 1438.

I'll leave it up to others with actual experience for the model year, but on my '79 I had to finagle it a bit to clear the studs and come out over the starter and by the brake booster. Wasn't particularly difficult for that year model. How about a pic or two to show the problem. You know what they say, and it's easier than typing a thousand words.
