No back up lights!?

I have replaced all bulbs, checked and secured grounds and cleaned connections. Everything works but my back up lights. Is there a reverse relay or something I am overlooking. Also, are 1156 bulbs OK for the license plate lights. I removed really corroded and burned out bulbs and cleaned socket and connections. The bulbs that came out of license plate lights were smaller glass but fitting allows 1156's and they work. Leave them or try and figure out what those smaller bulbs were? Last question, my Spider is a 78 but outside door handles are type on 79's. Did they make a late 78 that used the 79 handles.

reverse light is controlled by the switch on the trans, no relay in the system. 67 is a better choice for the license light, 1156 is really too bright

Yes, the late 78s had the 1979-on type door handles.

Thanks, but where is the switch located on transmission?
Also thanks for heads up on right bulb for LP light. Will change out.

It is on the very back of the tranny facing the rear of the car. Should be the only thing back there with a wire running to it.
