hey everyone
working with a 82 spider FI. crank no start.
i have 12v at injectors.
i have spark
duel relay is working, pump is working and i have fuel at the FPR.
injectors are not pulsing. have checked with noid light
I replaced the coolant temp sensor that goes into the T at the front of the engine and spliced in a new connector.
my question is this...does it matter what wire of the new connectors goes to the wires on the original harness. I just crimped them and go. could this keep the car from starting if the wires are reversed?
also i replaced the radiator and have not added coolant. does there have to be coolant in the system to give the sensor a reading to feed back to the ecu?
what should I check next? the ecu?
the car ran fine before all this. it shut off of me on the highway due to a chewed up magnetic pick up which I replaced as well. I know i installed that correct as I have spark verified with a tester. can see the arcing occur.
thanks guys

No, it's a resistor.
> does there have to be coolant in the system
Not when it's cold. I would not run the engine for more than a few seconds once it starts, tho.
>what should I check next?
That the wire from the FI harness is connected to the negative terminal of the coil and has a good connection.
Next check at its connector that the ECU is getting power and ground. It grounds on the rear bolts of the intake plenum, easy to see.

12v at pin1 ecu
Ground good
Coil connection tight
.4 ohm on brown white wire to pin1
What am I missing? This cars kicking my butt.

Could a coil send spark but no pulse signal if the wiring is all good? Just a thought

I'll give you an uneducated suggestion and make a more useful offer:
> Suggestion: if the injectors aren't firing it may be because the ECU doesn't think the engine is rotating. Given that you changed the pickup, check the connections around the distributor and the coil.
> Offer: I have wiring diagrams and a diagnostic manual for the FI cars that I would be happy to send you. The diagnostic manual in particular appears to have step by step debugging instructions. PM me if interested in either and I can email them to you tonight or tomorrow morning.

Re: 82 spider fuel and FI coolant temp switch question
thanks for all the help everyone.
I have followed the FI diag steps from online and everytime it comes back to a bad ECU.
Ive done every ohm, voltage and continuity test per the diag instructions.
I have triple checked grounds, powers, fuel coming out of the cold start line etc. everything is working as it should. checked the new mag pick up and everything it perfect. coil connection tight and cleaned.
I checked for injector pulse to the ECU via test light and i infact have it but the ecu will not fire the damn injectors.
anyone have an ecu I can purchase?? need one ASAP!
thanks guys

Re: 82 spider fuel and FI coolant temp switch question
okay well swapped in a known good ecu and it didnt work.
I am at a lost here. i no longer have spark for whatever reason but 12v at the coil still.
gonna try a new coil/ICM just cause there cheap enough to swap out.
i really thought i had it with the ecu. this car wins yet again/.

Re: 82 spider fuel and FI coolant temp switch question
FIXED!
it was a bad ICM.
you will not have injector pulse if this component is bad which I didnt know.
also threw a new coil on for good measure.
runs like a top!
thanks everyone! you guys are the best.

You mean the ignition module, right? Most people don't know what some of these abbreviations mean.
