defroster grille question

are there any differences between defroster grilles (the two round vents that sit on top of the dashboard) from early vs late year cars? if so, will a later model year fit in a 1975?

After 1979 they do not have the ears and you cannot rotate them.
Never tried to interchange them between years, but one would think you could make any of them fit.

They all fit. The dashboard never really changed except those vents (even the pininfarina dash is the same just has the bottom cut off), the rotating type have the ears and the late ones don't. The late ones are held in place by a pin and can rotate, it's just hard to get your hands on them with enough leverage to do it.
