Brakes

Post by fiat218 »

The guy I sold my 72 too, had the car into storage and after he got it back there was no brakes pedal, so he bled the lines ect
And still the same, pedal to the floor, what can be wrong?
Can you bled the booster?

The booster has nothing to bleed - its just a big bladder that assists your foot when pushing on the master cylinder. If there is no pedal, then he isn't bleeding the brakes properly, or, there is a massive noticeable leak somewhere. he needs to make sure that he bled the rear brakes properly - the car should supported by the axle so that the proportioning valve is open as to allow fluid to the rear brakes. I always bleed furthest away from the master cylinder first, working my way to closest to the master cylinder.

As for the master cylinder, the book says you are supposed to "bench bleed" it. I have never done that though, I just stick it on the car, hook up the fluid line and pump with my foot until it starts pumping. Then I attach brake lines to it.

If you've lost pedal over storage, it means its leaking somewhere. check all the calipers. it'll be obvious.

the master cylinder may have an internal leak, so it doesn't build any pressure but doesn't leak fluid

Thanks, I did tell him to bleed from the farthest away, then I said to make sure there fluid in the reserve as you bleed it,
So hopefully it all simple. This is the first time I have heard from him since the sale
