Some Pictures of my Spider

Post by ANALOG »

Had a nice day the other day so got the new camera out and took some pictures of my Spider and uploaded them to my Flickr account. I wanted to emphasize the design and curves, because that's what really impresses me about these cars.

Enjoy!

how can you stand to drive that car? the glove box lock isn't quite vertical, the left front bumper rubber is slightly crooked and the right door gap is slightly off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, seriously, that car is gorgeous!

Thanks for the comments. After I sold my red Spider two years ago (stupid move) I never dreamed it would be possible to find one that was in even better condition. Yet the car isn't perfect. There are a few nicks in the paint (but amazingly it is original) and a couple small dents in the hood that I carefully avoided in the photos (but the dents can likely be pushed out). I believe the car was in a very minor accident at one time because of the dents, the missing air dam (which I since replaced), and some other missing bumper parts which make me wonder if the front bumper is original. The emblems aren't original and neither is the top or the clock. The glovebox lock doesn't work (I saw the glovebox lock wasn't straight after I uploaded the images. It's not like that normally...a piece of paper got stuck in the lock when I closed it.) There's a leak in the brake system somewhere and many of the rubber parts under the car will need to be replaced due to age. And there is a strange bypass of the thermostat in the engine compartment (but the car doesn't overheat).

But overall these are minor things for a 28 year old car. Whoever owned it before me took really good care of it and hopefully I'll be able to continue babying it. It's not a show car by any means, and I keep thinking about what my FIAT tech once said, "These cars were made to be driven". I've driven it 1500 miles already in the month and a half I've owned it and I'm hoping for many more in the future!

And think of all the good exercise that you get parking it at the end of the parking lot to run in the store, so it doesn't get a ding. I hate you already!!!!!!!
No, seriously, congratulations on the car, it is a real beauty and we are all jealous. It looks like it has the leather option with the power windows on this car. What year is it?

Yes, it has the power windows (recently oiled mechanisms to prolong the life of the motors) and leather interior (which is in surprisingly nice shape). It was made in February of 1980.

Hey there! So glad you found this car because it looks like it's as perfect as you wanted. The color and condition is just amazing.

My Pinin is still a shell- but he got the block and some of the tranny in.

P.S. I showed the pictures to Doug and he said he loves your license plate!

That is a beautiful car. An original 80 with the leather option is very rare - and the condition is fantastic. Keep it original (or sell it to me!). Right down to the steel wheels. Beautiful car.
