Anyone make a cat bypass for a '79...?
He guys, I'm looking into possibly un-corking the exhaust some on the '79 and noticed the other day while under the car she has a triangle shaped 3 bolt flange versus the square 4 bolt flanges on the '80+ cars. I saw that Ramzi sells the 4 bolt cat bypass pipes bit didn't see a 3 bolt. Does anyone know who might sell one or if anyone reading has a old stock cat and would be willing cut off the flanges so I could have my own welded up that would be great! Thanks in advance...

The less proper answer would be to bust all the stuff in the cat out. Not a great idea, but if you're serious about doing it or if your cat is clogged already, it's the free answer.
I'm pretty sure Ramzi sells the 3 bolt flange, if not he'd probably help you work something out. Give them a call.

I'm wondering about this same question also..
I'm also wondering if I can just bolt on an old model's exhaust? I would keep the down pipe, and replace everything else. I have the cat (don't need it, no emissions testing), and also the two mufflers.. the mufflers need replacing..

Its called a sawzall, welder and a stick of pipe for $5-, plus you need an hour to kill and a 6pak of beer. It's almost like paying somebody to put air in your tire. Everybody has a pal with a welder in the garage.

I would go with the test pipe and not just clean out the brick inside the CAT. A few years back before changing the exhaust I banged screens and filling out of a partially obstructed CAT on my 82'. It was an hour of punching a rounded crow bar and picking pieces out one at a time. Very labor intesive hour to clear the CAT. In the end, the hollow CAT sounded tinny or changed the exhaust note in a manner I hated. Given the time to hollow the CAT, the health risk and poor sond from a hollowed CAT. I'd go the true test pipe route. You may also want to give some consideration to putting straight through resonator. It will be much louder without the CAT.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

I thought about that but didn't want to ruin the stock cat for originality if one day I ever decided to sell the car and the new owner wants it "stock". Thanks for the advice non the less!paintdudeluke wrote:Its called a sawzall, welder and a stick of pipe for $5-, plus you need an hour to kill and a 6pak of beer. PERFECT! Thanks... As it so happens those guys are practically in my back yard and I can swing by tomorrow and pick it up! I would have never imagined checking eBay or for that matter DiFatta Bros. I actually know all those guys really well as John was a good customer of mine at my old Deli and over the years with all the Alfas' and Fiats' we've owned I been there hundreds of times for parts runs. Thanks again!

I have installed the 3 hole DiFatta one on Ebay and it fits fine on my 1979. The silver paint though will flake off on first use.
