NEED FUEL PUMP HELP.
I have a 1980 Spider 2000 FI. I just started it up after the long winter and it turned right over, no issues. The car idled for about 10 minutes and then it just quit. I went to restart it, but it just cranks and does not turnover. I no longer hear the familiar sound of my fuel pump engaging. Does this mean that it is bad or could it be something else? I've had the car roughly 11 years and never replaced the pump as it always ran fine. Any suggestions?

I hope you got it fixed if so what was it? I would have suggested the you check the air flow meter door to make sure it wasnt stuck. That should move to energize the fuel pump. Next would be to tap on the pump and see if it would free up some stickyness from sitting.

Re: NEED FUEL PUMP HELP.
thanks for the reply. the pump works. i hooked it up to a battery and it worked fine. i just replaced the inline fuse, still not working. the air flow meter door seems to be fine. i took out the dual relay and cleaned it out a bit...still not working. i have a feeling the relay is shot. any suggestions where i could get a new one at a reasonable price?

When cranking, the fuel pump is wired through the ignition switch. Sounds to me you need to check for spark, double check coil and ignition.

the dual relay can be bench tested. shop for a good used one can save you some money. The PO of my 80 wired past my dual relay. I bench tested it and it turned out to be fine. My inline fuse was bad. You can test the afm by turning on the key with the motor off and manually open the door and see if you can hear the pump run.

Read the Bosch part number from that relay, it will cross reference to about 6,000,000 other cars. Nothing special about L-Jetronic parts used on the FIAT, it was all off the shelf Alfa, FIAT, VW, Porsche, MB, Renault, Peugeot....LISpider wrote:thanks for the reply. the pump works. i hooked it up to a battery and it worked fine. i just replaced the inline fuse, still not working. the air flow meter door seems to be fine. i took out the dual relay and cleaned it out a bit...still not working. i have a feeling the relay is shot. any suggestions where i could get a new one at a reasonable price?

Re: NEED FUEL PUMP HELP.
thanks. i pulled the relay, Bosch 0332514127. I have found it but it is pretty pricey. Not to sound like a rookie, but how could I cross reference the part to see if another Bosch relay would be compatible? Is there a site or index?
Thanks,

Thanks,
They cost between $70 and $100 depending on where you buy them.
There isn't a cross reference for the part, what I meant was to cross the thing over to another car... e.g. these things seem cheaper when you buy them as a VW Vanagon part than a 124 Spider part.

Re: NEED FUEL PUMP HELP.
There are lots of Fiat Spiders on LI can't you find someone to loan you a relay to substitute for yours as a test
If not take the cover off your relay. Turn the key to "Run" and one relay set of contacts should pull in. This gives voltage to the injectors and powers the AFM internal switch. Then move the flap in the AFM and the other relay should close this powers the fuel pump and the aux air regulator.
