Turbo Info

Post by davery »

I recently saw an ad locally for a Spider for sale for parts. No year was listed. As I was looking at the pic, I noticed it had a carb. It also had a turbo boost gauge on the dash. I assumed the turbo models were all FI, but now I am wondering.

It's quite possible that it started life as a Turbo car but over the years I'm sure it' has past through many hands and when the turbo blew or the car developed some issues someone ripped out all the turbo components. As to why it has carb... possibly they had issues with the FI and converted to a carb setup for simplicity. Just an idea... There's a black '82 on Autotrader that's been for sale for quite some time, one night while browsing I saw the pics of the dash and saw the turbo gauge but it wasn't advertised as a Turbo model but it intrigued me so I sent him an email requesting additional under hood shots to see what was what. Turns out all the turbo stuff was ripped out years ago.

Hmmm, a carb and a boost gauge.

Sounds like a supercharged Volumex.

A slim chance, but if, it is, and if you're not interested in it, let me know because I wouldn't mind a parts car.
