Came across this Spider in an auction review of Auctions America in Ft. Lauderdale this past March:
Here is what the reporter said about the car:
"Lot # 447 1978 Fiat 124 Spider; S/N 124CS10127296; Engine # ;, /; Modified restoration, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $14,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $15,400. No Reserve – 1,600cc replacement engine, Konig alloy wheels, Falken blackwall radials, luggage rack, Sony CD stereo, fat woodrim steering wheel, burl wood dashboard and console trim. – Very good paint, chrome and interior. Freshly restored and upgraded only a little. – There’s a lot of summer fun in this Fiat, a svelte little sportster that has a lot going for it and at a reasonable price. An astute purchase for the new owner."
Nice Spiders are starting to sell for good money.

Re: Spider Sold at Auction
Yes, a good dollar for that car with a replacement 1608 engine..... At Barrett Jackson I'd be thinking they would say "well sold"
One was for sale near Vancouver (84) for the same dollar that was on the market for about 4 days before it sold. It was really nice low KM car, red to boot

Re: Spider Sold at Auction
Body looks great on that silver one. That makes a big diff I think when it rolls across the block. But I wouldn't be surprised to see these start to catch up to the Triumphs in price. We lag far behind right now, which is fine with me. Inexpensive parts is good.

You called that a while back Doug!
That's the same car that was restored here in Naples and you posted on this thread

That it should go to auction...
Smart man!
And I guess I was wrong about it being pricey...

This increase in value is a double edged sword. Good for car value, bad for insurance and replacement parts. The 124s are very special cars and one day the rest of the world will figure that out. Doubt if it will ever catch up to the British cars, but you never know. I didnt raise my insured value this year, but will probably next year.

Alan,
Good catch. I had no idea I'd seen that one before. (course I can't remember where I put my keys this morning either)
Yeah we've been seeing some good auction results but they've got to be nice ones.
Its fun to fantasize that our Spiders are going to shoot up in value but I'm not counting on retiring off the proceeds. I don't think most of us worry too much about what we can sell them for.
Been enjoying your posts. Yours is going to be a beauty.
