My trouble is, Weber number stamping gets smaller the older I get  A few years ago I employed a magnifying glass full time on the workshop bench!
Are your air correctors now, 165 in the primary and 180 in the secondary circuit?
Out of interest, may I ask what type of spark plug you use (heat range too)

I think majicwrench has nailed your idle problem, as you suspected too.

Frak! Got home, pulled the air filter with plate and diagnosed the problem in less than a minute: The trouble is, indeed, with the idle circuit. The problem isn't with the jet being plugged -- it's that there's NO idle jet. ACK! No wonder it's so lean and won't idle!

It must have fallen out somewhere on yesterday's test drive. I didn't see it was missing when I was playing with the mix screw as that area is pretty much obscured by the lunch box air filter plate and hose that leads to it. Sadly, I didn't notice it was missing once I nursed it home, either, and switched the air correctors back to their original config.

Will be a few days at least before I can get another. Yuk. :(

Thanks for the help magicwrench and Fi8spider.

Cheers,

It was a pleasure meeting you too phaetn. Sorry I couldn't stay longer. Hopefully Canadan can help you out and it's something simple. Odds are he has "seen that before" and has a quick fix for you. Good luck and hope to see you Sunday at the ICCO met.

Compression even on all cylinders.

Jetting now pretty much to Weber spec, with the exception of the fact that since I don't trust the original 165 indicated air corrector, I now have a new 170 in the primary circuit and a 160 in the secondary. All other primary and main jets are correct. Might go down on the primary idle later, as per Brad's suggestions, though even when I was using a smaller .55 rather than the current .60 the same issue was still present.

Replaced fuel filter in engine bay. Still might replace one in the trunk. Have to get a fuel pressure gauge tester and check when mounted on windshield wipers during actual driving conditions.

Next step is to check timing.

The saga continues...
