Has anyone had any experience with the new Mechless car audio units (No cd). Most attractive to me is their smaller size...although some appear to be the same size as a typical cd unit. In my dash there is not a lot of room for a stereo and a smaller unit would be an advantage. I can do with out the cd...

Tuc124 installed a "Mechless" unit in his Spider. I recall that he mentioned that it puts out plenty of power and installation was straight forward. You may want to PM him for more info.

I put one in my 82 a few years back. Install was easy and it gave me about another 1.5 incheas of room behind the head unit. I personally don't like when the head unit sticks out a little. The head unit was made for a boat and did not produce a lot of power. My car is loud since i took the CAT off and have a straight through exhaust with a small resonator. Because of this i wired an amp in the trunk. If my car was stock the mechless would have been fine by itself. The mechless made the install a lot easier with respect to wire routing/bundling behind the dash. the best part of this install is the combined USB port, Aux in port and an IPOD wire I routed through the air vent on the passenger side and up to the center by tjhe stick shift. With the new Ipod's storage, I have over 30 thousand songs and multiple play lists at my fingertips. Passengers (my Duaghter) can plug thier phone in and navigate to what songs they want to hear and it charges thier phone at the same time. I can plug my phone in the USB and charge it while she is playing songs from her phone. Voltmeter in the cigarette lighter with a USB charge port as well as the functions provided on the head unit.

I just bought a pioneer without a c d player. Its not near as deep as a regular radio. bought it for my little economy car. When I noticed how small it was I figured that it would be perfect for the spider. It is a hands free unit for answering the phone. It has bluetooth and it has a usb cable running out the back.
