My 1981 Turbo Spider Begins

Post by Daniel »

I purchased a Turbo Spider with a very straight body almost no rust, the PO had all the body work done a couple
years ago and then just stopped the project. So now I'm going to finish this car sometime soon but it needs to be
primer'd again fix a couple small dings, take apart the top end, FI system and Turbo to see how everything looks then
Painted, Brakes are rusted so might as well replace them etc. I'll post some photos once i find my cord for my cam.

Wish me luck...

So i talked with the paint supply shop and he was asking for the color code he was saying the code should be under the hood
somewhere? I've never seen a color code placed on these cars anyone have an ideal what this guy is talking about?

Isn't it on the plate that sits above the firewall? Facing the front of the car...

If you can't find the correct paint code - then I'd suggest looking at some of the rarer paint colors ...

If it is anything like this colour (which is a turbo model), I may be able to get a code..

This is close to the color, when i had my 79 painted we picked a color they had in stock it wasn't original but close.

The 81 Turbo is primer'd on the outside the only way i know its light blue is the engine bay but even that is dirty and
dull. Image

The code should also be stamped on the aluminum plate in the engine bay(fire wall) along with the vin. Sometimes these are missing. TCP global has a great selection of original paint chips and you can get the code even if you don't buy the paint there. Using their site, enter the model and year and it will come back with the colors for that year. Be sure to scroll past the original chart as there are often more colors

this is where I'm starting from, the PO had all the body work done then left the car sitting so looks like I'm going to
remove all the primer and start over. I have a lot of the new parts he purchased for this project so I should get
started by next week.

did some test sanding on this car looks like the primer is to weathered to leave it on so bare metal project is
in the mix now :( I might try and work on both my project fiats at the same time they both need paint we shall
see how it moves along soon...
