Dry Carb Problem Solved

Post by Dougieb »

Hi,

Thought I would share this with people.
My '72 Spider has had two different carbs on it, the original DHSA and now a DMSA.
Both would be "dry" of fuel if let sit for more than a couple of hours.
The clear fuel filter would even be dry.
I changed ALL of the flexible fuel lines from the tank all the way to the carb.
I also put in one of the "flying saucer" type check valves at the gas tank.
(Forgot where I got it. Sorry.)
I really did not want to change out the mechanical fuel pump for an electric one.

Problem solved.
The fuel filter says full even after sitting for a couple of days.
She fires right up at the turn of the key.
I looked at the accelerator pump diaphragm as suggested by some.
But others (notably BEEK) put had the right idea.
If your fuel line goes dry, it is something else.
Either a leak in the line or the tank is sucking the fuel back.
I am guessing there was some negative pressure in my gas tank after it is shut off.

Thanks to all.
Hope this helps someone.
