I got the timing cam seal replaced, timing belt on and everything put back together. I'm not sure if the engine had this before I did all that (I think it did) as it has only been run about half an hour total since I got it back in the car. However I have a ticking sound that when I listen with a stethoscope seems to originate in the area of cylinder #2 when pressing the receiver against various places in the head.
I tried to upload a recording of the sound here - hopefully you can get it:

Any thoughts as to what this could be? The engine is newly rebuilt (OK it was rebuilt 2 years ago, but not started since then), including the head. The rebuild was stimulated (then grew substantially) by leaking valve seals.
The engine seems to run OK. I took it for a short drive to check that the cam seal was not leaking any more and it ran well - rev'd up to 4000 with no problems. The tick is particularly noticeable at idle.
Again thanks for any insight.

Re: Ticking Sound
Could be an exhaust leak. I had the same ticking and it turned out to be a loose connection between the manifold and exhaust down pipe.

AJ,
Stethascope really tough, so much noise going on in engine, plus it echoes everywhere.
Exhaust leak possible, pull end of stethascope use open tube around gasket area, exhaust leak really easy to pick up.
Exhaust lead w be louder cold, and will be pronounced on accel. And will be easy to find with stethathingy.
Can't listen to clip.
Tis easy to check valve adjustment.
Cam pully can rock around and make noise. I hold cam pulleys w chain wrench, apply a bit of locknut, then torque.
