A couple more questions - unattached hoses

Thanks again everyone for answering questions. I'm going about sorting this car since I've only had it since Friday and am still trying to diagnose / figure out components.

Question 1
On my carb (Empi 32/36 DFEV) there's an electric choke. Yet I see a choke assembly here with no hose attached (see just below the throttle linkage in the photo):



Should anything be attached to that, or is is only for water (or vacuum) based ones? My choke actually doesn't seem that effective -- when I first start the car on a cold day if I even think of touching the gas it coughs and dies. If I let it warm up for a few minutes then I can gingerly apply throttle. After than I can easily apply a lot to rev it.

Question 2
There's some sort of cannister at the very front left of the engine bay (from driver's seated perspective). It has a hose coming from it, but it isn't attached to anything. In my pic you can see my screwdriver pointing to it and you can also see I'm holding the hose end.


There are more than a few non-connected hoses in the bay, and I figure that's from changing to the new carb. What's that hose for?

Your choke is electric, from the picture it shows no power lead going to it just shows the spade at the choke which is the round black thing on the side of the carb. Need to energize the choke for it to work.

Wow -- thanks! There are lots of little things I'll have to sort out. I'll find the powered lead for that ASAP.

your rubber hose may well have been for an old carb with a choke that used coolant.

that's a charcoal canister in the corner, it's connected on the other end to the evaporation fitting on the gas tank. The hose coming off the top would have been connected to a vacuum port on the carburetor that doesn't exist on the new one.

i'm not sure where to route it. i believe it's been covered here before tho. Some people just delete it, but that could cause an excessive gasoline stench.
