Crankcase Long Breather Hose

Post by bbuckl »

I am in the process of getting my motor and transmission buttoned up and ready to go back together. I replaced the intake manifold and put a new small air cleaner on the carb. The fitting on the air filter housing is too small for the breather hose and I noticed that the hose looks like its starting to crack in places. Is there another type of hose that I can use? I don't need a form fitted hose like the original since I replaced the air cleaner.

Thanks,
Brian

FWIW. My car came with an aftermarket air cleaner, and the large crankcase hose trying to feed the small inlet in the housing was the source of too much back pressure and oil blowing out my dipstick and spraying my engine bay. Originally thought I had some major leak going on. Ace mechanic cut the crankcase hose as a test, and never lost another drop of oil.

Could you explain this a little bit better? Did he cut the hose from the air cleaner and it's just sitting there? Did he make a cut in it to give some additional "relief" when it is drawing air? Did you find some way to enlarge the inlet? Thanks.

I welded a bigger nipple on the air cleaner base to accepts the stock hose size. any oil resistant hose will work. I wouldnt got much small in diameter as that will increase sump pressure.
