Spring things

Post by TulsaSpider »

I have had my 78 for several years now. When I got it I thought it looked like it was on stilts. I have tried a few configurations. First I cut my stock springs then a friend gave me a set from his car that were cut aftermarket springs. I loved the look but it was too low. The control arms were at an angle and everything I have read that they should be level to the road. I have also had to remove my oil pan the past two winters because of hitting my oil pan.....
This spring I have been gathering parts for a complete front end overhaul. I bought new control arms and tie rod ends and centerlink from AR and performance springs from Vicks. When I began I measured the wheel well height.
Front driver 22 1/2"
Front pass 23"
Rear driver 24"
Rear pass 24 1/2"

I did all the work. I cut one ring from the front springs and when I got the car back on the ground I measured.
24 1/2" on the driver's side
24 3/4" on the pass side
I took it apart and cut another 5" section off the pass side and I got it within 1/4 inch. That's good enough for me.

I have not changed the rear. I am not sure I am gonna change the rear out.
I cannot wait to get her out and try some curves!!!

So this is informational but I welcome observations and suggestions.
And should I change out the rear springs?
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!
