Re: New toy.
I have had several Audis and I loved the way they look, feel, and drive (especially the Quattro!). However, the maintenance costs and repair bills killed the ownership experience for me.

No kidding... I have a VW Passat 4motion(Audi and VW very closely linked) with the 280 hp 3.6. It is an absolute beautiful car to drive however for maintenance not so much... Tranny maintenance...$85.00 for tranny filter...$85 for the tranny gasket....$40.00 /L for tranny fluid (needs 4.5 L)...SunnySideUp wrote:However, the maintenance costs and repair bills
I believe Audi is much the same...

Re: New toy.
I'm on my second Audi... First was an awesome 2004 A4 3.0L 6spd with Quattro, bought brand new. That car was so smooth, but was wrecked when a person in the lane next to me spun (because someone pulled out in front of them), and totaled it at 105k miles. I loved that car.
To my current A4, 07, 2.0L Quattro auto (so the wife can drive it).. Its... meh.. Its good, reliable, comfortable, etc... But just not the same as my 04... Did the timing belt on it a few months ago.. Wouldn't have tried it if I didn't have the experience of doing it on the spider..
Don't know what the next car will be in a few years.. I saw that VW will finally bring a diesel wagon, AWD and a stick shift.. I might just go for that.. I have a 40mile commute everyday (each way)...

Re: New toy.
The issue that I had was the way the trans shifted. It was starting to give out. Other then that the car was amazing. The 5 speed that I drove the other day was so much more fun to drive. But it was to old to get financed at a decent rate. So now Im on the lookout for an 04 or 5 with a 5 speed.

My wife has the 4.2 V8 Quattro S4. Absolutely a fantastic car to drive, and sport mode even more fun. That said, my spider makes me smile (and cry) more! (must be the Italian heritage.....)

Where I live, that could take hours. And hours. And hours.
I don't envy you my friend...

Re: New toy.
I used to do a commute like that, from MA up to NH. Bought a Volvo 240, 4 door sedan, new, it got 29mpg and I put 300,000 trouble free miles on that puppy. They lost me as a customer when they went all yuppie on us.

Re: New toy.
Rey, have a look at a newer VW Jetta or Golf TDI. Tons of torque and amazing mileage. A friend drove from here to Calgary and then still had enough fuel for two days driving in Calgary....about 1000 kms before filling up again. Up here a bit pricey compared to the US...2012 with 30,000 kms was about $24,000 cdn $ The new diesels are getting very powerful with the good mileage. manual or that 6 spd auto.. (that was the same expensive tranny to maintain)

Nar fire that is very good advice. Thing is O don't want to spend that much. Already have a truck payment
And I need money left over to work on the spider. Lookin in the 10 g range.

Ok, bear in mind down there you usually pay less in the first place and the Canadian dollar is about 10% less than your dollar..
