It is as big as it looks. That is the reason i made a smaller one, both in height and in width. I went back to this one. These are the original pictures and it has been lowered an inch plus change and painted all black. The lowering and painting helped the looks quite a bit. Still looks big compared to others.

And as far as looks go, it slopes the wrong way. I think the top should slope towards the front of the car.

The design I created allows it to lean forward, backward, lay flat, etc. Nothing better than having adjustability! :)

Hey John
John here from CT. based on your assessment and pictures I clicked on over to Raceland and placed my order. Can you send specs for how you fabricated the mounts? I would be willing to purchase them as well, however in lieu of that if you have the dimensions and material list i might give it a try.
Thanks for your efforts and sharing

For you DIY guys, here's what the IAP screen looks like:

While its good to see up close pics what id like to see is pictures from distance to see how the shape and size look on the car. So many home made screens are I'm sure very effective but they look amateurish. Not suggesting this one is of course. But many I've seen just look cheap and home made.
Not that there's anything wrong with that if you only want wind protection and are not concerned about the look.

No, it is mounted to pivot points on the convertible top frame. A very clever design; it is independent of top, seat and headrest movement. But at $279, it's pricey.

JimB, I'll try and take some longer photos. It does spoil the lines of the car, but it sure makes driving comfortable! With the terrific output of the Spiders heater, I could drive the car in 40° weather. It will be beneficial in the Summer, too. There is a huge reduction in exhaust fumes entering the cabin while underway.

If I were designing one, I'd start with this, but make the bracket with two locking positions, Up and Down. The IAP product relies on the friction of the stop nut to hold the deflector up, and it must be quite snug. I intended to replace their Nylocks with wing nuts to facilitate easy lowering/raising when not needed, but this design won't permit it.

I've noticed that the IAP wind deflector, which I installed a few years ago on my Alfa Romeo Spider, has now developed some sagging in the screen material (no longer taut). My Fiat adapted Raceland Miata screen material, which is not as tough of material as the IAP, is still taut and it is only a year younger than the Alfa Spider. Both cars are stored indoors. So the really cheap Miata screen is holding up better than the very expensive screen from a tightness viewpoint; go figure.

Though I'm still awaiting the brackets from the fabricator, the Raceland brackets I created mount the same as the IAP brackets. I used the Raceland screen for cost as well. I figured at $49 plus shipping that I could replace the Raceland one multiple times compared to the $250 IAP screen.

Baltobernie - The Raceland screen also has the same stop nuts.
