i messed up and mixed up all my springs... I plan on using the early springs i have since they sit lower than the later springs... is there a way to tell the difference by looking?

are you sure they are shorter? because i know two of these sets are early. one from a 70 and one from a 71. when i compared them all today, all the rears were the same height and all the fronts were the same height.... i haven't gotten rid of any of my springs, so now i'm really confused. so now i have 5 sets of springs and i don't know what's what.... it's a lot of work to install them all to see the ride height...

The older springs don't weigh as much, they compress more, and the car sits lower upon them.

70 and 71 (and everything prior to 74) would have the "early" springs and everything after 75 would progressively get taller. I think 75-78 weren't as high as 79-85. 79/80 springs with the 13" wheels and modern tires (e.g. lower profile than OEM) look kinda funny.

I expected to find two sets shorter out of the 5. But they're all the same length

you may want to "mic" the diameter of the metal to see if there is a difference there. As I recall the fronts are the same length, but the backs are different. The only way they can make a lighter spring with the same length and number of coils is to use a smaller gage rod.
