So rare

Post by azruss »

Wifey and I went for an afternoon cruise to New River (1.5 hr round trip on 50 mph road). Must have seen 100 harleys, most of them driven by couples. A couple of sports cars, all new. Not out cruising but going to a destination (you can tell by the way they drove). The only vintage sports cars I saw was an MGB for sale in New River. It makes me realize the perception of rare is never seeing any around. It doesnt mean there arent plenty, they just dont get out. It does leave me with the feeling that I own a very rare bird.

Not to say a bad thing, but you own a fiat, not a bird. Know what your driving or stay off the road

In Arizona you can typically drive ALL month without seeing another Fiat Spider. If you do see another Spider you probably know who owns it and their forum name.

A "rare bird" indeed (at least in Arizona). Tweet-Tweet! Cheep-Cheep! Cah-Cah-Cah!

I actually saw a Spider yesterday! It was parked in a driveway in Dedham, and was covered in primer, but it was a Spider. Forum member perchance? Yes they are very rare here too.

There is a lady in my old neighborhood that has an 81 she bought new. She lived 2 blocks from me and for the 14 years I lived there I never saw it out of her garage. Where I live now there are 2 but I haven't been able to catch up with the owners as they were headed in the opposite direction.

Up here in North Idaho (Coeur d'Alene) I know of 8 personally, Mine, Jim's & Nick's that have got together many times, My Book keeper & her husband (Buck) have one (just put it in their garage, bad tranny, might have to buy it) a guy I met while showing mine (Cosmo) that bought the dark blue one I was going to buy for parts (not on the road yet as far as I know but working on putting it back..tranny) & a white one I've seen on the road 3 or 4 times (pretty girl.. wink, wink, wave) & a friend of my parents also has one (Harvey), never seen it. I have also heard the owner of a local Italian restaurant has one too (not seen it either)

Then we have Spokane just over the border in Washington that I have met 2 "Jim's" that have very nice ones & heard there are a few more involved with the Spokane Italian Car Club that Jim is involved in (hope to meet more owners there when I can join a meet-up)

There is (was, heard he just passed) a guy that lives 1/2 mile from me back behind NAPA that has 2 parts cars (79+) I would love to have (don't know how to approach the widow) & there is the first one I looked at up in Davenport Wa (has a parts car too). Also seen on Craigslist a guy up in Sandpoint has 3 he's wanting to sell (ones an 81 anniversary)

WOW, I'm amazed ,is that 17 I know of???..I guess there are a few UP HERE thinking about it (100 miles south of Canada) & at least 3 of which I NEED to buy! (+ there is an X1/9 in Spokane I want to buy...drool. Oh and another silver X1/9 2 blocks from my work in CDA)

Driving around though I have only seen Jim, Nick, Buck, pretty girl & the silver X1/9 very rarely.

There are few other cool classic convertible sports cars around town to see, a few MGB's & midgets, a couple triumph spitfires, a Sunbeam Tiger (yes the V8) more than a few Cobras & a Lotus Elise (not convertible or classic but tiny & cool & FAST)
Hard to believe with only 6-8 months of "possible" top down weather here.
