how does the back of the rear seat ,sits in its place if the tabs are broke off?
bottom seat first then the back?
what are the tabs on the bottom of the back cushion for ?

Remove bottom cushion first - it should pop off with a vertical tug from the front. Remove the wide band above the rear vertical seat back that is just below the rear plastic window. From there you will see tabs and screws that hold the seat back in place.

But why replace the rear seats with "seats?". Why not replace the stock set up with a true parcel shelf? Many have custom fabbed such a set up and Allison's Automotive even has ready-mades pieces available. You would get a more practical and sensible use of the space.
