Just got through redoing my front end with Vicks Prima 1 control arms/new tie rods/ new wheel bearings. Did it all in an afternoon. And I was exhausted afterwards.

Anyways, during my usual "Search for spare parts" after a big job, I see that I have forgot to put back in the retaining ring for the inner bearings in the wheel hubs. I know Fiat put them there for a purpose, But I do not know the purpose. The bearing rides against the spindle and the other side is captured on the outer race that presses against the hub. Do I need to take all of that crap back out and put the retaining rings? Vicks does not include these retaining rings in their complete hub kits, So I dunno.

Also, before I took on this job, I consulted a few previous posts on this site from other people that had done this job. Was very helpful. Thanks to all for that. Vicks, sold me some great high quality parts. Their new Prima 1 kit was fantastic.

Hopefully others will confirm but I dont think that ring retains the bearing race, I think it acts as a spacer to proprly set the grease seal. You may not need it if the seal is seated right.

Thanks mike, after thinking about it, that's what I kinda figured myself. I think i may have pushed that seal in too far anyways. I may have to take it apart and fix. :(

I think you already know the answer.

You're dealing with a part of the car that a mm or two can offset things terribly. Do it right and get the parts back in there, before you drive it and things get settled down.
