Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
If you are trying to save money I think a far better solution is to install an EMPI carb, assuming those are not made in China. I was told they were not. Half the price of a weber, and I don't send money to China. Ran great. I went from seven connected hoses and two wires to one hose (fuel in) and one wire (choke). Runs great.
Hated that water choke, even though it worked!

Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
You were told wrong, EMPI is 100% China made. Even the part on some that say "Made in Italy" - that's Chinese too. The box they come in, the wrapping paper, the plastic top and bottom, the plates, casting, springs, screws, all made in China. Good carburetors though, probably as good as any Weber ever was in terms of parts quality. Weber makes (or made) a fine piece of engineering, but they were not trouble free, and no more or less prone to failure than the contemporaries. And they made some absolute garbage (DIC, DHSA, ADHA...)michaelj wrote:If you are trying to save money I think a far better solution is to install an EMPI carb, assuming those are not made in China. Years ago a company in China was called "Made in Italy" and they sold Guibos to all manner of people and they were all stamped "MADE IN ITALY." You've got to appreciate the humor at least.

Brad, have you been able to run the ADF yet? The photos look like a nice quality unit but I guess when compared to a 40+ year old Weber it' not hard to look decent if its clean...

No, we went from one carnival season (Mardi Gras) to another (St. Patricks) but I expect to do this in the next 3-4 days.georgeramos wrote:Brad, have you been able to run the ADF yet? Since I'm currently in carb mode, both swapping the one on the '79 and just learning enough about carbs to be dangerous as a starting point, I'm really curious how this turns out.

It sits on a shelf. That car has loads of ignition/electrical issues so swapping the carb seemed like adding fuel to the fire. I also moved to Atlanta so the car is 500 miles and two months from me working on it.

Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
I just ordered one from Ebay yesterday, supposed to be here at the end of August, when I plan to add it to my single plane intake and replace the smogged up spaghetti of vacuum lines on my '79. Will let you know how it goes, pretty much has to be an improvement over what I have now.

Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
Got my Chinese ADF - as Brad said, it looks pretty good, did have the accel pump linkage bent a little, probably from shipping, but otherwise in good shape. Hope to get my single plane intake tomorrow, pull the old intake, carb, and multiple vacuum lines off my '79 and install them this weekend. My '79 is actually running pretty well right now, so I am pretty excited to see how it runs with the new setup!

take lots of pics of what comes out, what goes in, and where you piped what. A write up would be AMAZING.

Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
I do have a lot of pictures of this carburetor: http://www.artigue.com/34adfchina/
It has the important ports - fuel in and distributor vacuum - and the secondary ones - fuel return and vapor recovery. Red cap is fuel in, the one above it is fuel out, the large one on the body is vapor recovery, the small one on the body near the mix screw is vacuum for the distributor. The two on the barrel are the choke (water in and out, order doesn't matter)

Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
Just finished installing it on a single plane Intake on my '79. The screws that hold the water choke were loose and I had to use the linkage from the original but otherwise was pretty simple. No leaks, started right up and runs AWESOME! At least compared to the original. Took it for a quick spin, great throttle response, but linkage is a bit tight, hung up at about 3500 rpm. Gave up for the night, will adjust tomorrow, then do a write up next week. Time will tell but a good first impression.

Re: Chinese 34ADF Thread
Found out why mymy idle was at 3500 with the stop screw all the way out. The set screw for the secondary was so loose it vibrated out every time I opened the secondary so at the end of my test drive the secondary was propped open! Put some permatex on it to make it stay and took a 20 mile cruise today. So far, I really like it, smooth idle, good low rpm behavior and good throttle response. You definitely want to check all the screws and adjustments for tightness on these carbs.
