I have this project car: its a 69 with a later 1600 engine and carb on it. But it has the old push pull style lever in the engine bay, not the cable - so stock linkage will not work. (as far as i know)
what do people usually do? the PO put in some angle iron brackets and ran a cable around the carb in a circle. super janky and id rather not do that.
thanks

Early spiders had this type of set up later spiders had a different gas pedal linkage specifically for a cable

Re: 1600 engine in 69 carb linkage
looking at jims spider the original linkage does fit and work, but there is a problem with that style linkage in the original design. when the throttle is depressed the linkage twists, the motor torques and causes its own twist to the linkage, thus creating very jerkey accelerations, especially when the motor mounts are worn. fiat figures this out in the later cars and made an adjustment, on 75 and later 124's except sedans, which started earlier. they went to a cable throttle. Much better design. this is also the design which i will be fitting to jims car

I haven't had any acceleration issues, but am switching over to the cable along with twin IDFs

Re: 1600 engine in 69 carb linkage
maybe that is what the PO was trying to deal with by putting a cable between the pedal arm and carb- in theory this should reduce or eliminate any effects the engine moving would have. but his design is no good as both the pick points of the cable are on the intake manifold. so when the engine shifts it would pull and push against the lever similarly to solid linkage. what one needs is a pick point from the frame- then a cable with some room to flex, to a pick point on the engine/manifold and then into the carb.
thanks for this- ill try and see what i can come up with. seems like in this case a little custom work might be the best route

Cable runs from gas pedal arm inside the footwell to a bracket on the intake cam cover ( covers flex movement via the cable) then hard linkage to the carb.

Re: 1600 engine in 69 carb linkage
yes, that is the later set up.. but i do not have that later gas pedal arm nor any of the linkage on the intake cam cover. my cam cover does not even have the pillars or holes to put said linkage. it would mean pulling all of that from a later car, which might be fine, but it also might just be something i could work out with the pedal arm I have. To be frank, I rather avoid having that very complicated mess of linkage on top of my cam cover when it looks so clean and pretty as it is.seabeelt wrote:Cable runs from gas pedal arm inside the footwell to a bracket on the intake cam cover ( covers flex movement via the cable) then hard linkage to the carb.
