Help with identification
Help with identification
I am trying to identify this part. It is connected to the intake and the carb; plus it seems to have an electrical connection.
It is on the drivers side wheel well at the top, just under the hood gasket.

Thanks

Re: Help with identification
that's kind of funny because I have a manual pull choke along with a manual idle pull cable too.
I guess that will not be needed when I swap over to the 1800 intake with the EMPI carb. I guess I could use the 12v to power the electric choke on the new carb.
Thanks for the info.

Re: Help with identification
It a 72 and as far as I know its all original under the hood. I really want to clean up the clutter in the engine bay, so anything that's not needed will be removed.

Re: Help with identification
I really enjoy it too, thought about swapping out to a 2L but decided to keep what I have and add a few things to it.
I have an 1800 intake with a EMPI 32/34 ready to go. Also plan on putting the electronic Ign from mark in it too. If the boss okay's it, I will get a new header too.
Might convert to complete roadster too, but haven't decided yet.

Re: Help with identification
These are all separate things. The manual pull choke is the cold start device, the manual throttle is a suicide device, the fast idle device is an early emissions control device. It worked by holding the carburetor throttle open at around 1600 RPM during shifts in the 3/4 gear range. The idea was to burn the fuel pulled into the motor before the throttle snapped shut.124Germ wrote:that's kind of funny because I have a manual pull choke along with a manual idle pull cable too.

It really isn't a bad device but it had little longevity, FIAT ran wires up the engine bay from the the transmission tunnel and they rarely survived the 10k mark. Today the system is all but useless unless the transmission solenoids, the wires, the device, the hoses, all work and the carburetor has the fitting to hold the throttle open - which hasn't been available for two decades or more.

Re: Help with identification
There should also be a button in the engine compartment, which activated this fast idle device, so emissions could be tested at above-idle speeds without having to touch the gas.

Re: Help with identification
There seems to be a button, like what would be used for an alarm system near the back of the hood, drivers side. If that is what that was for, fast idle, then it will be removed also.
Thanks everyone for all the info and help.
I do have another item, which was posted on another thread. I will take a look and if no bites, then I will post it hear.

Re: Help with identification
That could be the lite that was under the hood, sitting on the firewall, there a button that shuts it off as the hood close, on when it open,124Germ wrote:There seems to be a button, like what would be used for an alarm system near the back of the hood, drivers side. Re: Help with identification
Below is the other item I am trying to identify. I think its some sort of emissions device.
all hoses were cracked and/or broken off except for one that went to the intake. below is the link to the canister and where it was located.
Canister removed.

Location of where it was before I removed it.

The little button is actually located in the original picture, just to the left of it.
