cant get pistons past caliper seal

probably need to clean the groove completely, they get fill of residue and don't let the seal seat

They were the rears. Little trick to working them on the worm gear. Push in, half turn to left until click, screw in to the right. I think I was hanging up on the 2nd land past the seal. Alls good now. rears done. Fronts tomorrow after the exhaust shop is done.

All 4 rotors are on, all 4 calipers successfully rebuilt, all new pads of course and a complete fluid replacement & bleed. After an afternoon around town everything seated in and it feels like a new car, and the E-brake works killer too!

Paintdudeluke, I have just done the same thing, but now, last step, can't get the handbrake to grab at all. All linkage to the cam lever is working correctly, it just seems like I'm not getting any movement at the rear piston when the handbrake is actuated. Can't figure it out. Any chance the "pawl", the wedge between the cam lever and the plunger for the back piston is in upside down. Any help would be appreciated. John

The rear pistons have to be aligned a specific way or they say the hand brake will not work. There was the flat groove cut across the rear piston. On one side of the groove there is an extra "line" cast into the piston face. The side with the line has to be oriented toward the top (upside of the groove). If this was not done, that might explain the issue.

Pull the caliper and look at the line orientation.
Look at "A" on the image. [you might right click and open in a new tab to see entire image]

If its oriented wrong, just spin it and reassemble..

Is that the bleeder screw at the bottom of that image? If so, and if the orientation in that pic is correct wouldn't the A grove need to be at the bottom? This is how I assembled mine (oblivious to its meaning, pure fluke! ) and the handbrake works perfectly.

It must just be a glitch in the image layout. The bleeder has to be on top always because the air rises to the bleeder. I never even noticed that.
