I recall reading once that you should never reinstall a timing belt once it was removed. I've removed mine, as well as the supercharger belt...both of which only have a few thousand miles on them.
On one hand I think it's pretty cheap to put new ones on, but on the other hand I think it might be overkill because they aren't very old.
Your thoughts please.
Thanks,
Jim
Replacing belts
Re: Replacing belts
Miles don't really matter as much with most of our cars but how old is it?

Re: Replacing belts
any thing worth killing is worth overkilling .... I would have a little timeclock of doom in the back of my head counting down to eminent failure ... always thinking "I should have changed those belts" .... so I would change them ...

The car has just over 68,000 miles but the belts have about 2,000 miles on them.

Re: Replacing belts
Change the timing belt. They seem to stretch just a tad and I found mine slipped a tooth or two after being stingy and re-used one with about 1000kms on it. Car ran but I noticed a lack of power compared to when the belt was new and timing all lined up properly.
Playing golf in the snow today Jim?
This sucks, I was about to get the spider out, but woke up to snow.....

Re: Replacing belts
Thanks Chris,
It snowed a bit here overnight, we always get a bit more snow where we live because we're up on the hill. I was scheduled to play Royal Colwood today no go. However I fully expect the snow to be all gone tomorrow and it's supposed to be sunny for my Wednesday round at Cordova Bay.
Next time you're on the Island bring your clubs and we"ll see if we can get a round in somewhere. Cordova Bay has a collector car friendly parking lot. I know because I usually drive the Volumex down in the summer, and I've often seen other sports cars, or street rods etc there as well
Cheers,
Jim

I'm more worried about age than milage in your case, Jim.Jimb wrote:The car has just over 68,000 miles but the belts have about 2,000 miles on them.

Do you get the compressor belt from Canada/US or do you use the European SpiderPoint/DelPriore etc?
Chris & Jim; Hope you don't use your Spiders on salty roads, gentlemen (ok, I know Jim is off the street, working on the car...)

Re: Replacing belts
Hi Wiggo,
Did you get my email to you with pictures of the filter?
My belts came from Germany...and I did decide to replace them all. Now I feel stupid even raising the question because it's a no-brainer to replace them.
My car is only licensed for the street in Summer and even then I never drive my car even if the roads are wet.

Your car should not be driven when the roads are wet! It's to special.Jimb wrote:Hi Wiggo,
