need manifold help from the experts

Post by cormac »

Ciao -

I am rebuilding a 2l engine with 1.8 head

I will be using twin weber 44 idf's, am exploring my options for intake manifold,

my options seem to be

Mangoletsi

from Mark (Allison's Automotive)

or N.O.S Fiat Abarth (waffle)
stampings
Fiat 1
AS 62
125 BC000
owner of this manifold has told me the center to center measurement of center studs is 79 mm (a little over 3 inches)

and am willing to look at other options and suggestions

am hoping to get some constructive feedback on my choices

FYI, I will port the head/manifold, and am not concerned about brake booster problems

Molte grazie

If I am not mistaken, the 44 idf's are not supposed to fit well to the waffle manifold. So you might look elsewhere... could be wrong though, I think I read it somewhere on turbo124.com

JD thanx for the response

I have heard that as well but if the measurement given is accurate, it should be no problem...I think??? as the measurement bandied about for most of these is around 2 inches

mangoletsi is 1 31/32, don't know the measurement of Marks

so you can see why a little confused re the 3 inches, if it was really 3 inches and I have no reason to doubt, then it would be a luxury to have the extra room

I have installed twin 40IDFs with a Fiat waffle manifold on a 79 2L with both the 2L head and the 1.8L heads with no problem. In fact it was easier to install than both the 2L stock manifold and the 1.8L manifold.

If you have time, what was the distance between the inside mounting studs on your intake manifold? and did you have to alter linkage etc? as many have done as distance is too small between carbs when mounted

thanks a bunch

and does anyone know if there was a different "Abarth" waffle manifold vs. a stock Fiat waffle one?

we build our manifolds to fit the new style 40/44 IDFs. I don't believe any of the cast manifolds out there will accomodate the new carbs without shaving the end of the throttle shafts

I used the 40IDF 13/15 with no throttle shaft interference and no linkage rework (slight bend and end adjustment only) to the original ADHA 28/32 carb throttle linkage. An absolute no brainer.

Show me a pic of what you are considering as inner studs and I will measure it.

Unless you find the above referenced ultra-rare and expensive CSA manifold built for 44s, all manifolds built for the 40s will require porting. On both 40s and 44s I had to shorten the throttle shafts when installing on a cast manifold.
