Favourite winter pass-time?

Post by wiggo »

Mine is travelling on the map.
In the winter, when the cars are silent. Just dream away on a map.

Now and then I look up in Google maps, where people are located.
Do they have som nice-looking roads in the vicinity?

For instance, from the location of one person in here (sorry, I'm nowhere near this person in reality, you may all rest assured  ) I found roads like Greyback Mountain Rd, Arawana Forestry Rd, Smethurst Rd.
My God, if they were made of tarmac...

Ok, so mine is maps. Yours?

I build a fire in the shop and tear apart the Spider. There is always improvements to be made. January was the month for fixing all oil leaks, Head gasket change and exaust work. Febuary is for new carpet ,insulation. dash replacement and lots of other fun stuff. Oh yea, also working 60 hrs a week too. And trying to get as much trout fishing done as possible.

Winter? I normally bake a lot ,working with 11 pounds of solid chocolate slabs.this year I been concentrating on a rebuilt engine ( I'm not doing it as you all know ) but I am the parts runner, so that what I have been up too
I do have the 79 in the garage now and this week end I will start putting the interior in in it, from floor insulation to the seats
My plan in mArch is to trailer the 69 to beek in Florida , if it nice on the way, I will take it off the trailer and cruise with the top down, making my way to Florida, oh and some one will be driving the truck too

I guess I am lucky. I live in north Carolina and there's generally at least one day per week that I can drive mine. This week is a challenge cause we just got 12" of snow but Sundaylooks good. Of course there was a time as a young man that the only car iIhad was a '57 MGA and had to drive it year rround.

Crikey, have you been having a look-see at the Naramata area?
Arawana and Smethhurst are up the hill from me and are as you mentioned dirt forestry type roads. They climb from me at around 1100 feet asl to around 4800 feet ASL. Currently there are logging trucks on the road until this warm weather shuts them down and the frost comes out of the road. They are in decent shape but the great thing is that there are MT. bike downhill routes up there as well. Get a truck to take you up and you have 2500-3000 vert. feet of downhill trails.... big time fun.
Greyback is further behind me and accessible from Penticton.
6 times a week I drive Naramata road to and from work and is perfect for the cars that love the curves through orchards and vineyards. This am there were 3 speed traps in a 2 km section but otherwise is usually a trouble free drive 8)
I have a 36km commute to my work and pretty much enjoy the drive, no traffic to speak of and can make the trip with only 2-3 stop signs.
I'll have to take a few pics.
My winter gig... Work, cross country skiing with the dog (s), swimming at the pools and usually working on a Fiat project.
Moving shop this winter so some things have been put on the side lines for now, perhaps a ski on Sunday though.
Where in Norway are you? I had a visit there in 76

i have done it on a motorcycle but i would imagine the Fiat would be exciting and relaxing at the same time!

The kanky is beautiful but the tar can be really bad at times! if you catch it right it is quite a drive, yes!

Now you can look me up on the map from the location in my profile.
My (summer) hunting grounds are north of my location and east/southeast into Sweden. Anything within a 3-4 hrs radius

I see many of you are working on your cars. Mine are put away for the winter, away from my home & missing them.

By the way, I have another pass-time - Countdown of days to season start. 60 and improving...

No snow on Vancouver Island, Jim?
You sure have some hefty fjords and ferry connection over there. Some nice roads on the Island?
