Ignition Switch Question

Post by Funcar »

Kindly tell me what part I need to purchase to complete the ignition switch. The PO had lost the key and therefore took the switch apart and to a car locksmith to have another key made ( 25 years ago). He can't remember if he has the new key or find it if he picked it up!

here are some pictures of what the switch looks like.

I don't know of any vendors that sell half an ignition switch; you usually must buy the whole assembly.

You might post on "Parts Wanted" and see if somebody has bits and pieces you could use to rebuild the switch. You'll need the metal barrel, three long machine screws (and keys  )

You can get one online - I have one I can sell you that I am not going to use. I purchased it for the same reason but just ended up making a small plate and mounting an ignition from the local parts store on there. Works great and cost under 10 bucks. I'd sell you the one I got for 20 bucks - you pay shipping.
Good Luck.

There were slight differences in the ignition assembly over the years; safest bet would be to just buy the complete replacement ignition barrel and then just transfer the wires from the numbered tangs on the back of the black piece you have, to the same number tang on the new assembly.

Takes about 30 minutes if you know what you're doing, about an hour if you don't.

My car is a 73 Vin # 55865. I live in Kitchener Ontario.
I think my best bet is to purchase a new ignition switch and install it. I have been in contact with http://www.autoricambi.us/ (Ramzi) and they have the ignition I am looking for. I will be vacationing in Arizona later this month and plan on ordering additional parts. A very generous member of this form has agreed to allow me to send them to him so I can pick them up when I am in Phoenix.

Katsi I had sent you a personal e-mail regarding your offer ...let me know if you did not recieve it.
