Colour is always a difficult choice unless you know exactly what you want.
Don't get me wrong I love yellow but it's very loud and demands attention , I'm not the type of person screaming look at me...
I really do think this car needs to stay as original as possible and choosing paint from the same year is very important to me, others might disagree but hey my car my garage right !

Guys please help me on this one because I value your opinions and just want to get it right first time.

Was that yellow the original colour, (it is one of my favourites) I think is also looks smart on the dino. I understand about shouting out but lets face it is a unique car with a heart of a Ferrari which pretty much already says that no matter the colour.
If it were me I'd stick with the yellow, to me it would be a bonus it is the original colour, I am a big fan of the yellow.
I think the 850 sport coupe look smart in the yellow as well.

Just my 0.22 cents worth (GST included)

At the end of the day it has to be something you'll always look back at and always be happy with (or maybe get another and have a sister car....one of each colour)

You asked, so I'll give my opinion (it's called 2 cents for a reason!).

First the Dino will look good in any color. However I'm with David, I like the yellow and would keep that especially if it's the original color. I'm not a big fan of orange, and none of the cars you showed with the varying hues of orange did much for me. Also, if you are looking for something more subdued I'm not sure orange is it. I think it pops out as much as yellow.

For more subdued I go with perhaps a dark red:

In my opinion the Dino has such great lines it would look good in Camo...

Only kidding... the pale yellow looks good as well. For the moment I'd be getting the mechanicals and body work sorted. perhaps there is a computer program where you can superimpose the stock colours on the car to get a feeling what works for you..
I also like the, is it, Azzura Blue... the light blue kinda metallic..

There a faint traces of green under the hood so its possible green was the original colour , this would explain the tan interior the only way to know for sure is to do a search with the Dino register chassis no 0000456.

I must admit the yellow is growing on me will wait and see as there are so many other things to do first...

Thanks for those pics , the pale yellow looks like a lime green but i do like it... the dark red also looks good but would lean more towards burgundy.

Just an update on what (I think) will be the new colour I'm going with and must say I love … Up close the old yellow paint is badly cracked and the floors need to be replaced so a bare metal strip down is on the cards.
Please share your thoughts as I am now looking for a more subdued look and this colour really caught my eye.

According to Lee, when the car underwent restoration,
the car was stripped down to metal and in the headlight
buckets, underneath a coat of white paint, was this
'aubergine' color. The car has been restored to 'aubergine'

Comments: This is one of the four cars that had the pretty front
side vents that became standard on the California spyders.
As well, when the car was returned to the Ferrari Factory to
be fitted with the new engine, it was also fitted with disc
brakes and Jaeger gauges and unusual Anza exhaust outlets
"banana exhausts" which were piped through the rear
bumperettes. Unique and beautiful looking.

Very nice. I painted my 124 Spider aubergine and it always recieves complimentary comments. It's perhaps a shade or two darker than the sample you've shown, and it's a metalic.

Yes I've always admired your car and colour, dark aubergine has different shades to it depending on the light fall and if you have a metallic paint you can fade out desired areas presenting a two tone effect…

I've posted another pic of the same car and it's obvious how much darker the front now looks.

My personal opinion.

I do not value the aubergine color for a dino or a Ferrari.
It's totally personal, and I am not the one who will pay the bill...
Aubergine is a classy color (although my prunette is... prune, close to aubergine, lie de vin, etc..., and nevertheless was furious on rallies).
IMHO, a dino should be red, yellow, white, or any pepsi color, and not aubergine, deep english green, etc....
Aubergine is ok for an old Lancia Aurelia, a Delage, but does not reflect the personality of a dino engine.
Purely subjective, I agree.

Any nicely done paint will be fine on such a car, anyway...

I agree with others that it will look good in any color. Jealous? You bet.
And the "look at me" color isn't all bad. I chose the screaming yellow just for that purpose.
Not to be looked at personally, but to make sure the soccer Mom's in their lifted SUV's see me stopped at the light while their on the phone.

Hi Pinin, did you turn anything up with regards to the original colour? Does that model Dino have a paint code on any of the factory plates or stickers?

There is a black one from Sydney here that has really been restored to a T. I'm sure you might know of the car being that there are only a few of you lucky fellas on the island. Point being, black really suits and I see where you're heading with the deeper melinzana although the yellow one I see from time to time from the Fiat Club in Vic is a jaw dropper too.

Here is the black Spider at AutoItalia last time I saw it. Winner in the convertible class that year.

Reading your thread here you seem to be having a tough time deciding where you're heart is at, personally i'd put it back to factory colour whatever it was (if you did find out) but mate as someone else mentioned earlier, you couls paint it camo and it would still look great. Good luck with the colour selection and I hope to see it in the flesh one day.
