Saw this Ferrari 250 GTO at a local Cars & Coffee show this morning. According to "Autoblog" one of these was recently sold in Italy by an American collector for $52 Million. The highest sale on record. Maybe this is a trend for all Italian cars. Let's hope!

Well, I'm pretty sure we're never going to see a Spider go for 52 million!

There are a bunch of reasons why a Ferrari is a Ferrari and nobody else will ever be.

There is a racing heritage to Ferrari that nobody else can match. Enzo's attitude was different than nearly every other car builder, he only sold road cars to pay for his racing, while everyone else road raced in order to sell more road cars. Big difference. Then there is the hand built, low production numbers aspect to Ferrari's that Fiat or nearly nobody else can compare with. And rarity. Ferrari never expands it's manufacturing to match demand, while everyone else will. I believe there were nearly 170,000 Spiders built for the American market, so it's not likely they'll ever be worth to much.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but the reality IMHO is that Spiders will never be worth to much on the vintage market. So just enjoy the ride and admiring glances!

those 250 GTOs are one of my favorite cars. I had one in my slot car set when I was a kid and it was always the fastest car

There were only 39 250 GTOs built . They are all accounted for. Replicas, copies and clones, plenty. Many of them are expertly done. Not likely that this one is real.

Last summer in France a real one on the way to gathering of a few of them at Lemans hit a car that went through a light. Minor injuries to the husband and wife owners and the car was banged up pretty good. It will just get rebuilt again. Many if not most have had multiple rebuilds.

I saw the GTO with Tuc124 at Tucson Cars & Coffee. In my opinion, if it isn't the "real deal" it's a mighty fine replica. The owner didn't sound like he had any intention of ever parting with it.

Beautiful car. It has to be a replica though, or he has the one they made with the wrong headlamp covers and he put $100 tires on his $2.5MM car.

I'm with you brad.

I mean, no offence to Buicks, but I just don't see a real GTO parking next to them. Different league altogether and the snob factor is just to much! Not to mention, it just doesn't have that hand-built, 50 + year old look to it that a real GTO would have, and it actually looks like fiberglass.

Pretty car though!

This Mangusta was 2 cars down the row. This is a monthly "bring whatever you want" event. Someone even had a gocart there. Can't verify the authenticity if the Ferrari but the De Tomaso is the real deal. They have this event once a month. Next time I see that Ferrari I'll quiz the owner.

Friend of mine has Mangusta #1. As in the VIN number, is #1. WIld car.
