Factory carberator

Post by spiderrey »

Were there other good carbs performance wise that came from the factory besides the 74' weber 34? Was the 32 adfa 4 any good, 28/36 dhsa 2, 32 dhsa 1?

The 34 is basically it as far as single carbs go. The holy grail for a fiat spider is the Weber 36 DCNF... which i think is the one that came on the fiat dino. The rest are too large, too small, or not performance oriented in style.

Can't say I've heard of the 36DCNF.

Fiat Dino. Seriously nice, but I'm guessing there hard to come by then? Expensive when found? Big performance jump? Would it fit on a 79 manifold? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm looking to bump up my stock 79 set-up...

I doubt a 36 dcnf will bolt up to your stock manifold. 79 carbs are the worst. I have one in the shelf as well as the three others that I mentioned above.

The best quality bang for your buck these days seems to be the 32/36 Mark offers. That, plus a single plane 1800 manifold, will give you a seat of the pants change in power. I personally am changing my 79 carb set up out for an 1800 manifold and 32/32 carb... cheaper.

OK, so the 32/36 with the 1800 manifold is the way to go. That's what I've always heard. I'll keep Marks set-up in mind when I'm ready for that project.

I've actually been reasonably happy with the performance of the stock set-up for all of these years, but pretty much everyone complains about it and tells of a nice power boost when going with the 1800 manifold and 32/36 carb, and I'm ready for a little more punch.

Thanks...

just bolting the 32/36 onto your stock manifold will make a noticeable difference, but the 1800 intake is better if you can find one

Watched one go on ebay for $50 shipped (i think it was) the other day. I payed $40 for mine. The manifold is the cheap part so you might as well do it. :p

(found it, apparently id didn't sell http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fiat-SPIDER-INT ... 9784573%26 )

btw. just found out I'll be getting a $500 bonus next month. We need to have a conversation about some parts Mark, lol.

For what it's worth - I'm a complete convert to the delights of the 38ADL. It's a progressive carb, sensible and well behaved at low revs (on the first barrel), open up the second barrel and it's a little like a disruptive twin - wild and wonderful!

Did you run the 40 or 44 IDF's prior? I'm toying with the idea of building another engine and wondering about the fuel/air delivery system. I have a sort of tweeked FI engine and like it, but looking at a carb'd system for perhaps a bit more HP.(on another car) I haven't the appetite for a upgraded FI system and programing...

Mark has mentioned he has installed 38's on cars and they seem to work fine.

Nope... I went from a 34ADF.

There are people much more qualified than me to discuss the absolutes of carbs, their relative efficiency and power etc. I'm running stock compression and cams on a 1800 with Mark's header and the dizzy-less ignition in the block mount - and the 38ADL is simply wonderful.

I'm told that cams and compression will make it even better - but that will have to wait until next winter I think!

i had never heard of a 38 ADL. I think mark has mentioned the 38 DGAS which is NOT progressive. From what i have read, such a huge synchro carb on a relatively small engine makes driving a bit weird (likely to bog i guess). A progressivbe 38... now that is interesting.
