I have a Spider steering box and am not sure what year it is from. I tried comparing it to the one I have, and while they look extremely similar, I'm not sure if it's a direct replacement for my 82. Which year does this fit? It seems to be reasonably smooth but it's been sitting around for about 15 years, so the actual state is unknown. I was thinking of reconditioning it/cleaning it up if it's a fit for my 82, but not going to bother if it won't fit (it looks like changing out the box is not a simple 10 minute job).
Any help?

Re: Steering Box Identification
Nope...they are different. I am not sure where the cut off date is but I know this because I sold my one out of my 72 to someone and he mentioned that it was slightly different than the one he was trying to replace..

Re: Steering Box Identification
that box will not work in the 82, unless you have the lower portion of the steering column, the shaft with the u joints, i believe if you use it, it should work. from what i remember the upper end is the same.

Re: Steering Box Identification
Yes, the spline does look different from pictures of other steering boxes I've seen. I'm suspecting it's a 70's steering box. I have a few other bits and pieces, as well, so I might have to have a 'clearance sale'...
