1 Small Step For Chrome, Many Steps Left
1 Small Step For Chrome, Many Steps Left
Howdy,
After my Christmas present of a dented hood http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic ... bug#p12524 I am working on what I didn't want to do; a (pretty) complete refresh of my Spider. I wanted to have the car done for the British European Auto Tour a couple of weeks ago but the best I could do was manage to wash it. And after 1300 miles in 4 days it needs it again. Damn there are some big bugs out there!
P.S. Not only did I have the ONLY Fiat I also won the Best Hooter(s) Award with my stock horn. That alone made my stop at the Emergency Room in Flagstaff worth the trip. $400+ in gas was more painful than anything!
Ok, on to the chrome discussion.

I just got stuff back on Friday with a bill just short of $500. If you read the Website they seem a litte tight on the Gestapo leaning directions but I have not found a better communicator of customer service in a LONG time. Gen is great!
I sent three dash pieces to be used to select the best candidate.
These should look nice with some new paint and rechromed bumpers.
Of course now that I just spied Curly's solid rear bumper I will have a set of rechromed rear bumpers for sale...
And finally here is the dash that will eventually go in the car. I just found a guy on Saturday with a vacuum machine to apply the veneer.
I bought an engine stand today from Harbor Freight to support my spare engine for its rebuild. I need to clean up the FI parts. A set of 14" OZs are ready to go to the wheel shop. But I did just score an AutoPower roll bar today for $18.00. Oh the humanity!
If you are in San Diego, stop by and say 'hi.'

Good Eveing Mark,
Since this is my own thread I suppose I can highjack it with little impunity.
I sent you an e-mail a while back asking about modifying a non-FI fuel tank to be used with a FI system. Any chance I missed your reply?
Thanks,
E.

It looks good. Did you have to strip the old chrome plating off or did they do that for you? Was the same process used for the interior piece as well as the taillamp housings?

I remember that email and I did reply. I haven't had to convert one yet.... but we're doing a FI conversion now so we'll be getting to the fuel tank soon
Re: 1 Small Step For Chrome, Many Steps Left
They did everything. In fact they don't want the parts to have any owner prep done on them at all.mdrburchette wrote:Did you have to strip the old chrome plating off or did they do that for you?
I would guess yes but this is only based on the info provided on their Website. They could have sent these things to Mars for all I know. I do know that I am happy with results and look forward to see how the parts hold up over time.mdrburchette wrote:Was the same process used for the interior piece as well as the taillamp housings?

I do believe I have seen your car on the Mesa. A dark brown Spider went East on on Clairemont Mesa and passed me the other day. Thursday I think.Leesfer wrote:Thats where I go to school... Err went to school. I'm surprised you havnt seen my car since it has been in the area everyday

What is the latest on the conversion of a non-FI tank to be used by a FI system?

haven't gotten to the tank yet, been freshening up the motor and sourcing the fi parts. Soon though, we were just talking about it this afternoon.
Re: 1 Small Step For Chrome, Many Steps Left
Would they do the plastic inserts for the arm rests? The fake chrome is peeling off. I googled them and found their site, but they said it was $100/min order.
Mine are unique and painting them looked horrible.

Darsie,
The chrome inserts for the armrests is simply 8mm 'D' trim, available from Auto shops or Panel Shops about $12 per meter.
The top part/insert that covers the screw is available from Bruce's or Vick's, $15 each from memory.
