Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Ive seen v 8,s put in without people gettin all upset like this, so I guess that I dont get it. Personally I wouldnt do a swap in my spider ever, but I would seriously consider a swap in my ol x.

There are two camps on the issue certainly; and this goes for most cars. People who think its okay to put a radically non-stock engine in a car probably do many more modifications as well.spiderrey wrote:Everyone is entitled to an opinion. The crime, in my opinion, is 99% of these projects look just like the one in this thread, like some home-made piece of crap. Ruined a good car.

Brad, its back to opinion. I think the car looks good, minus the wheels.

Rey,I posted the original pics of that car and got roasted for it.It is all opinion.I don't care much for the way the car looks,in some regards.But...I would love to drive it! That is an awesome motor, which can make 300hp easily.

I can appreciate both camps here. The devoted to originality and the lets change things up group. im curious about the hood scoop and the reason for it.

It is opinion. Mine is there are a decreasing number of these cars; hacking one up bugs me. Putting a Japanese motor in it is an atrocity.

Re: s2000 motor in a spider
I am all about modifying these cars and even respect, as I have said, certain transplants. But, the bones and lines of the spider are what make them great! When the body line, stance, and overall outward appearance are disrespected, I have issues. If a transplant is out of nessecity, or amazing ingenuity, I get it, but I can't neglect the fact that the engine has always been the best part of these cars. So much can be done with them and they are such simple elegance that it does seem a shame to replace it with... Anything.
I will say that I have had a stock 1800 with a stock adfa carb for 21 years now. I have thrashed it, mistreated it, pushed it, beaten it and ignored it at times but I can still get in it and could easily get arrested for any number of violations. The thing flys!! I am in absolute agreement with Brad that as more and more of our spiders go to scrap or get parted out, it is shameful.
Now, don't get me wrong, I have always been a "to each his own" type and with that said, those of us who find it sad that a spider dies... Are allowed to be sad!
Steve, you better be reading this!! If the rust is bad, I will give you more than you paid and resurrect that 77 one way or another!

Re: s2000 motor in a spider
I think its an awesome combo. But this honda eng/trans is about $4k by itself. The 3.4 gm is still a far better option $$$/performance ratio. But the fit, power to weight ratio, and engineering of the honda here is a great setup. I've done a few conversions and some sucked, some were great. Put a bronco drivetrain under a wrangler...awesome. Put a chevy V8 in a 280Z...sucked. Put a turbo rotary from an 88 RX into a 914...awesome. Its all about what you get as a driving experience when you're done. I think a spider that could pull a 14.0 quarter mile and handle the same as stock would be killer! That's what eventually I'd like to shoot for. Squeezing that out of the fiat engine seems too far fetched and expensive. A V8 swap would totally ruin the feel of the car (like my V8/280 swap did). It would be chunky and so nose heavy it'd be a pig. Another consideration is cost. I'm all about getting the most for the money, and so far the GM 3.4 looks like the best option by far to keep sweet handling and still haul ass 0-100. I will also add that I'm not wanting to destroy the character of the ride, this thing is so charming I'm already in love with it and as long as it runs great I'm not changing a thing.
