fixed jets DHSA2, important? where to get?

Post by milo »

I had my DHSA2 apart today for cleaning, and while blowing out holes with compressed air, I noticed a small brass jet sitting in the sink. It was not obvious where this went, but a little internet searching showed it was one of the fixed air jets (or calibrated bushings) that are normally in the top of the carb (see: http://mirafiori.com/~pete/DHSA/DHSA.html). I put it back, but noticed I only have three, whereas there are supposed to be four. The one I'm missing is the smaller (outer) one for the secondary. I have no idea if I lost it today or if it went astray on someone's earlier rebuild.

My questions: (1) will missing that fixed jet matter (much)?, and (2) where can I get a replacement? Online stores sell plenty of main jets, idle jets, and emulsion tubes, but I have not seen any vendors listing the fixed jets. Do I have to buy a surplus DHSA2 and tear it apart (not cheap for one little part)?

Thanks,

They matter - but be certain that it looks like the thing is missing (some didn't have them). You should be able to find another DHSA lid without much issue, I had ten or so at one point in time (and would have given you all of them!)

I see from discussions that the DHSA's are not favored, but everything else on the car is stock, and I like fiddling with the manual choke, so I guess I buy a "parts carb". Thanks for the guidance.

Not favored only because they rob you of the fun of acceleration...the vacuum-operated secondary of the DHSA is just slow to get around to opening up. There is nothing wrong with them per se, and they were among the largest carburetors ever installed on a Spider.
