I notice two sets of carbs on AR web store,40iDF
What the difference between them? I assume wider throats?

Jim, if your are referring to the duel set up, one pair is genuine Weber, the other is the lower cost knock off. Pretty sure they are the same size carbs.

I am yes, so the lower cost is the same , just name brand differnt

Yes I'm aware of that, I need another set but I may go bigger, I will see what beek says when the time is right,
And umm, I'm not into trying to save gas it all about speed and power,

I can't remember if a flat hood will be ok with duel carbs?
Would it shut proper

Jim, I'm at the thinking stage of building another engine and it was mentioned to me that if I use the 2L engine, look for the 44 IDF's. Now I hope the engine guru's here will chime in to confirm as well.
Mark has a short video that compares the 40 and 44 idf's , both the EMPI and Weber carbs mounted on a VW motor when on a dyno.

I remember seeing posts here regarding the hood height and the 2L engine with the IDF's...not sure what the outcome was as I thought the IDF's needed a healthy clearance above for air movement...again engine guru's please....

I have a 2 liter with a very well worked 1800 head. Got rid of my 40,s for 44,s. Had a 71 with a flat hood and it cleared a set of 40,s with a turtle air cleaner.
