I believe the Scorpion engine had the distributor on the intake cam. Note the engine is mounted at an angle and if you look closely the sump bottom is angled to make the bottom of the sump horizontal. Also the carbs are properly veritical with the engine angled.

Wow, really have to look close to see the bottom of the pan. The intake on the other hand, is pretty obvious!
