Dies and Flys

Post by Baz »

Sunday drive, great 35deg C, engine just died. So side of road, flys and the heat, found fuel getting thru, but no spark from coil. Towed home. Amazing how many people see you when you are being towed. Have ordered pick-up coil, dizzy cap, and rotor...82 carbed engine.

Am I right ???

The fly should be Australia'a national bird.....Jeezus !

Car came with twin downdraft webers and I have had no issues for years...great combo. Not sure which module you mean. There is a pickup module in the dizzy, which I have ordered.

First knee jerk... look under the dist cap. The two wires get brittle with time, break and leave you stranded...no spark.

the insulation will also burn off those wires and they will ground. I've been able to do a road side repair with masking tape to get me going.

there is the electronic module under the coil (it is what the white cable plugs into), more often than not you'll find the white cable is the culprit...

Replaced cap, dist pickup module, coil, still won't start. No spark... Then I found some kind of module thing in behind the coil that the pickup from the distributer plugs into....it it possible that this is the problem ? It is the only bit left to check.

The "module thing" thing you found under the coil is the control module Divace mentioned. It is what takes the place of points in an electronic ignition system. If it's bad you get no control for making spark.

Ok...replaced cap, dist pickup, coil and finally the module near the coil. Analysis of the module is that it was cooked.
I may have connected the coil end of this new module the wrong way round. One end can be connected one way only, the other can be connected both ways. Anyone know if I may have stuffed the module. I believe it has diodes in it which don't like being connected incorrectly. Anyway she will not start. I have more modules on the way. AAAAAAArgh !!
