2uz or 3uz Toyota?

Funny thing is that Toyota claims that unless its really bad, like in figure 5 below that it is OK.

I dont know what a 2uz or a 3uz is. This is a toyota 4.7 liter v8. Its in my 06 tundra double cab. Water pump went out on the way home wednesday, and people get about a grand to replace it. So I went and bought all the parts to do it myself. Seemed a little intimidating at first, but now not so much. it still cost a lot in parts though. But id have to sat that I actually enjoyed the experience.

4.7 is a 2uz. We sell lots of Toyota water pumps, I'd guess 4/1 to Honda pumps, ( we are a Toyota and Honda dealership). I'm not so sure that their coolant doesn't have something to do with the problems.

So are you saying that I should use a different coolant? The guys on the tundra forum say this is the only issue with these trucks. Mine had just over 90 thou when it started to leak. Mine had the newer style coolant though. Pink not red. Some guys have 160 thou on there trucks and havent done the pump yet. My truck has about 104 thou but is seven years old. Thanx for the link. Why does thier coolant dry like foam?

I'm not sure about the coolant, it sure makes a crusty mess though. It is crazy how much of that mess you can have that is considered " normal temporary leakage" by Toyota in that bulletin. We get stuck in the middle between Toyota that says it's OK and the customer, because if they take it to another shop and they see the mess, then we are the bad guys for not calling it out. The pink is the correct coolant for your 2006.

HT, I have the pink so Ill put it in. Question though. Whats your opinion on replacing the two bearings that the timing belt rides on? Every time or every other time for swapping out? The one thing that I didnt buy was a new tensioner, I forgot. Thinking about gettin one this mornin. Thanx.

Its done. No leaks as of yet and it runs so quietly.

We usually spin them and listen for noise, probabily end up replacing them about half of the time. I can't remember one that actually completely failed.

It's running good. Ran it out to Rancho. New belts, hoses tensioner.thermostat, three bottles coolant. No parts or screws left over. New rad. And I can't remember what else. I figure Ill swap out those bearings every other belt Chang, so next time on that. I'm very happy with the outcome.
