heat box attachment

Post by fredguaz »

Hello,
Quick question. How many nuts hold the whole heater box assembly to the underside of the cowl ?? I have only 3 studs coming down from the underside of cowl and no evidence that there ever was a 4th. Seems like there should be 4 though.
Thank you,
Fred

I've notice I have only 3 on mine as well...don't know if they changed over the years but mine is a late 79 or 80 FI model.

Yep, Mine is missing the front passenger side bolt as well on my 79. Wonder why this one was left out. Think I'm gonna drill a hole from the bottom up and install one. Maybe then I'll figure out the hard way why it was never done. :)

Interesting. The underside of my cowl is in very good shape and there is ZERO evidence that a 4th stud was every put in. It too is the passenger side forward most. Not sure I would want to add a stud if there never was one. Must be a reason. ??

OK so what changed in 1980? Heater valve? Core pipes? Plenum box? Wasn't the washer tank moved to the cowl area at some point? Wizard what month was your car mfgd?

today, while i was finishing parting out a 74 spider i discovered that the heater box only had 3 mounting studs. this heater was original and never removed, i took pictures of the mounting attachments. the heater box had never been scratched or had a nut run on it. the cowl panel never had the stud. you can see that there are 3 and not 4. i guess it is an acceptable mistake. as there are usually 4
