Remembrance Day/Veterans Day

Post by spiderdan »

A little over ten years ago, I was attending a management conference and one of the keynote speakers was a man named Terry Kelly. In a nutshell Terry is a story teller, singer, athlete, entertainer and as he said, "he was gifted with the lack of sight".
Terry shared the following story with us:

On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store’s PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. Terry was impressed with the store’s leadership role in adopting the Legion’s “two minutes of silence” initiative. He felt that the store’s contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable. When eleven o’clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the “two minutes of silence” to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect. Terry’s anger towards the father for trying to engage the store’s clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channelled into a beautiful piece of work called, “A Pittance of Time”.

Terry played the song for us, and when he was done you couldn't find a dry eye in the house!

On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, I will be at the Canadian National Military Cemetary to remember the brave women and men who have served, and to thank those currently serving.
To all registered users and guests of this great forum who have served or are currently serving...
Thank You!

My wife is in Tsawwassen to help her 89 year old dad who served in the Canadian Navy during WW 2. He is fortunate I suppose that he can still march with the ever shortening line of Vets.
I'm at the cenotaph here in Naramata (pop 1750 ) at 11:00
My TV has been on the History Channel the past few days... truly amazing stories...
Thanks to all that have/ do/will serve and the pox to the politicians that send them to hell and won't support them when they return.

Amen to that. My Dad was a social worker with the VA most of his working life. He served a group of blind WWII vets and used to take them on outings to the park, visit them at home and help them with their meds and such. He loved those guys. They all deserve the best from our grateful nations.
